Washgourd, (2024-ongoing), performative lecture & sound performance, duration variable.
Washgourd is a sound performance that combines my Liberian farming and musical heritage with my interdisciplinary sculpture and sound practice. I clean hardshell gourds—symbols of diasporic resilience—while narrating a history of migration and familial estrangement. Using contact microphones and audio effects, I amplify the sound of scrubbing the moldy patina off the gourds to reveal the organic patterns imprinted on them. Audience members are invited to touch the gourds, ask questions, and share their plant knowledge.
